Privacy Policy
For the arivāme mobile app and kodavatakk.org. Last updated 20 August 2026.
Arivāme is a heritage and language project for the Kodava community. We collect as little as the app can function on, we do not run advertising, and we do not sell or share personal information with data brokers.
Using the app without an account
You can translate, read the library, browse Creator's Corner and ask the heritage assistant without signing in. In that case your device is identified only by a random identifier generated on the device itself. It is not derived from your phone, your advertising ID or anything about you, and it lets us keep your chat history working across sessions.
Saved words, lesson progress and appearance settings are stored on your device and are never uploaded.
If you sign in
Signing in is optional and only needed to post in Creator's Corner, comment, or appreciate someone's work. We use Google Sign-In. From it we receive and store your email address, display name and profile picture URL, plus the account identifier Google gives us. We never receive your Google password.
When you sign in, the anonymous history already on your device is attached to your new account so you do not lose it.
What we store on our servers
- Your account details, as described above.
- Questions you ask the heritage assistant, and its answers, so the conversation has history.
- Anything you submit to Creator's Corner — the link, title and description — along with your comments and appreciations.
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, calendar, microphone or any device identifier for advertising. The app contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDK of any kind.
Who else sees it
These are the only third parties involved, and each sees only what it needs:
- Google — sign-in only, when you choose to sign in.
- Anthropic — the heritage assistant is powered by Claude, so the text of a question you ask is sent to Anthropic to answer it. Your name and email are not sent with it.
- Voyage AI — converts library text into the numeric form that makes search work.
- Vercel, Neon and Cloudflare — hosting, database and image delivery.
- YouTube, Vimeo and SoundCloud — only when you press play on a creator's work hosted there. Playback uses their own player, so their privacy policies and cookies apply at that moment.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app at any time: Menu → Profile → Delete my account. Deletion is immediate and permanent. It removes your account, your Creator's Corner submissions, and the comments and appreciations attached to them.
Chat conversations are unlinked from you rather than deleted, so the record left behind is no longer connected to any person.
If you cannot access the app, email privacy@kodavatakk.org from your registered address and we will delete the account for you within 30 days.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages, but it is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Creator's Corner submissions are reviewed by a moderator before anyone else can see them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, write to us and we will remove it.
Keeping it safe
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Access to the database is restricted to the people running the project. We keep your data for as long as your account exists.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to privacy@kodavatakk.org. Depending on where you live, you may have these rights under the GDPR, India's DPDP Act, or the CCPA.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes we will update this page and the date at the top. Questions go to privacy@kodavatakk.org.
